Dry Eye Therapy And Fine Line Reduction
Ocular rosacea is a condition where the eyes are affected by telangiectasia, which is characterized by vascular inflammation and excessive redness. Often patients with ocular rosacea also have facial rosacea, regardless of the location it is important to know it can be improved.
MGD stands for Meibomian Gland Dysfunction which is a common eye condition that occurs when the meibomian glands do not produce enough meibum. This is directly responsible for poor tear film production and evaporation of the ocular surface resulting in unstable vision and chronic discomfort.
Lastly, Dry Eye symptoms can be further exacerbated by the presence of blepharitis and/or demodex. The cause of Blepharitis is multifactorial and often occurs when oil glands at the base of the eyelashes become clogged(MGD), leading to irritation, inflammation, bacteria and seborrheic dermatitis. In this environment Demodex can be found thriving in our eyelids and eyelashes especially if effective eye hygiene isn’t being practiced regularly. Demodex are parasitic microscopic mites that can infest the meibomian glands, eyelids and eyelashes. While Demodex mites are generally considered a normal part of the skin flora, an overpopulation or imbalance in their numbers can cause unfavorable symptoms.
If you are concerned you are suffering from any of these symptoms, we can perform Meibography imaging at your free consultation so your glands, eyelids and lashes can be properly assessed.
Both our IPL and RF Dry Eye treatments include Eyelid Microexfoliation pre-procedure to ensure a clean surface area. Each treatment targets the eye and surrounding tissue differently, after the assessment we will recommend which treatment will benefit you most.
Here are the two treatments and how we educate patients about the technology and how it will affect their symptoms.
TempSure® Envi™ for Dry Eye
TempSure Envi is a medical-grade radiofrequency treatment that reduces the symptoms of dry eyes disease. Your treatment will begin with an eyelid microexfoliation to ensure a clean surface area and increase the effectiveness of the radio frequency energy. This treatment is ideal for patients who do not suffer from inflammation but have dry eye symptoms like MGD or blepharitis.
Problems with any of the three tear film layers can cause dry eyes and lead to many uncomfortable and frustrating symptoms like dryness, irritation, burning, stinging, gritty sensations, along with fluctuating vision and excessive watering. Your tear film has three layers: the top layer is fat (lipid), the middle is watery (aqueous) and the bottom is mucus (mucin). This combination normally keeps the surface of your eyes well lubricated, smooth and clear. If you have any of the above symptoms or you feel daily eye strain please inquire about treatment.
This treatment is very gentle, non-invasive and safe for all skin types and symptoms. As oil and tear glands around your eyes are targeted with radiofrequency energy, cells regenerate and stimulate clogged meibomian glands to increase lubrication. As your skin’s temperature increases, the treatment triggers a natural reproduction of collagen in your skin. After multiple treatments you will feel relief from many of your dry eye symptoms, at which point maintenance will be needed less often.
Since these new collagen fibers have been stimulated, the skin around your eyes will tighten and become denser giving you tighter, younger-looking skin at the same time. If you would like to add an area you are concerned about or have your whole face treated just let us know! We can always customize your treatment course, it’s never too late.

ICON for Dry Eye
Dry Eye Treatment:
Intense Pulsed Light Dry Eye therapy stands out as a non-invasive treatment with exciting efficacy in addressing vascular and inflammatory aspects of skin conditions like telangiectasia, rosacea and even ryhnophyma. In the specific context of Dry Eye Disease and Meibomian Gland Dysfunction, IPL targets the root causes underlying dry eye symptoms and healthy tear film production.
Dry eyes can result from issues with any of the three tear film layers, leading to various uncomfortable symptoms such as dryness, irritation, burning, stinging, gritty sensations, along with fluctuating vision and excessive watering. The tear film comprises three layers: a lipid (fat) top layer, an aqueous (watery) middle layer, and a mucin (mucus) bottom layer. Typically, this combination ensures that the eyes’ surface remains well-lubricated, smooth, and clear.
As Ocular Rosacea is treated light is absorbed by the abnormal blood vessels, this process results in coagulation and closure of these vessels. By impeding inflammation and transforming the blood vessels our natural healing process can begin removing the damaged blood vessels. IPL plays a significant role in reducing redness and inflammation contributing to dry eye symptoms.
During treatment the IPL generates heat, this creates the perfect environment to liquefy thickened meibum causing Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). When this oily substance is melted the glands can function as intended improving tear film integrity and symptoms alike.
Your treatment will begin with an eyelid microexfoliation to ensure a clean surface area and increase the effectiveness of the intense pulsed light. This treatment is ideal for patients with a low to moderate melanin index or those who suffer from ocular inflammation and dry eye symptoms like MGD or blepharitis.
In addition to vascular, inflammatory and heating benefits, IPL therapy stimulates collagen production in the skin contributing to improvements in skin texture and firmness. It is always an option to treat the complete face or target additional blood vessel while receiving the dry eye treatment. Let us know if this is something that interests you!
